Durga, a rural Sri Lankan youth, trains intensely in traditional dance while his widowed mother travels to the city daily to sell fruit. A chance encounter introduces them to Tekla, an educated urbanite, drawing their families together. This connection leads Durga to form a deep, quiet bond with Tekla’s son, Johannes, which soon blossoms into a romantic relationship. On the day of his highly anticipated debut dance performance, his relationship with Johannes finds affirmation.
